Emili Castelo-Branco
Trumpets and flugelhorn
Born in Barcelona, he began his musical studies (choral singing and band) at a very early age under the teachings and influence of Josep Caballé i Mateu. He studied trumpet at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu and at the Conservatori Superior de Música de Barcelona, finishing his studies in 1992.
Subsequently, he has taken part in courses and advanced classes given by internationally renowned soloists.
From his student days, he addressed complex repertoires, such as the “Sonata da Chiesa” by Robert Maximilian Helmschrott, for trumpet and organ, which was a compulsory work in the chamber music course, at that time together with the organist Josep Maria Mas Bonet.
He has participated in various chamber ensembles, including, in the Catalan musical tradition, the coblas “Ciutat de Cornellà”, “Ramblas”, “Sabadell” and “Ciutat de Terrassa”, as well as brass ensembles, such as the “Brasselona de Trompetes Trio” and various brass quintets, with special mention of the one held with the BOS Brass Quintet in December 2017 at the Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao.
He also participated regularly in the symphonic ensembles that accompanied the seasonal cycles of Zarzuela in Catalonia, especially those of Ferran Rigual’s company, with which he took part in the performances of almost all the emblematic works of the repertoire.
He has collaborated with the Banda Municipal de Barcelona, the Orquesta Simfònica del Vallès, and the orchestra Ars Medica; and until his change of residence to the Basque Country, he was a member of the Orquesta de la Universitat de Barcelona, with which he premiered the Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra «Diàlegs»; a work specially dedicated by the composer, Lluís Farreny.
Now resident in Bizkaia, he is a member of the Chamber Music Association of Bilbao, the EHU Orkestra and has collaborated with the ProArte Symphony Orchestra of Madrid in the concerts held in the Cathedral of Sigüenza together with the choir “Aula Boreal”, conducted by Daniel Garay.
He holds a degree in Law from the University of Barcelona.
