Born in Bilbao, former Professor of Geology at the University of the Basque Country, he combined his university studies with piano, organ and composition, taught by Carmen Orúe, Juan Esteve, Pedro Guallar and Pilar Olaizola. He was awarded the Organ Prize by the “Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga” Conservatory in Bilbao. He has attended organ master classes with Montserrat Torrent and Guy Bovet, and harpsichord courses with Juan Manuel Ibarra and Rodrigo Madrid. He has been invited on two occasions (2007 and 2009) by the Spanish Consulate in Hannover and the Spanish-German Society of Lower Saxony to play on the Spanish-style baroque instrument in the Neustädter Hof- und Stadtkirche St. Johannis, as well as by the Fédération Francophone des Amis de l’Orgue for whom he played works by Basque composers at the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao as part of their XXIII Congress. He has taken part in the international organ cycles organised by the Provincial Council of Biscay, the Government of Navarre and the “Antonio de Cabezón” Association of Burgos, the 12th Early Music Festival of Gijón, as well as in the cycles of the “Diego de Amezua” Association of Biscay, “Órganos de Urdaibai/Urdaibaiko Organoak-Joxe Mari Eguileor” and “Los Órganos de Alicante”. He has also participated with the Choir of the University of the Basque Country in the recording of a CD with works by Mompou, Gorriti and Ezkurra; and with the choir “Los Tonos Humanos” of Galdakao he has recorded another CD dedicated entirely to Gabriel Fauré. A third CD includes several works from the Iberian baroque repertoire performed on the historic organ of Covarrubias (Burgos).

His organ programmes are fundamentally thematic, dealing with works and concepts that revolve around a specific framework: Finnish and Norwegian music of the 19th and 20th centuries, Germanic romanticism, monographs of the organ works of Antonio de Cabezón, North German composers prior to Bach and Portuguese and French composers from the 16th to the 18th centuries. On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the death of J.S. Bach (2000), he performed the complete organ version of “The Art of Fugue” in two concerts in the church of the Jesuit Residence in Bilbao, which were very well received by the public and critics alike. At the “Jesús Guridi” organ of the Cathedral of Bilbao, he has played two monographic concerts with works by W.A. Mozart on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of his birth (2006). At the Cavaillé-Coll organ of San Antón Church in Bilbao, he played the complete organ works of José Mª Usandizaga in two concerts (2007-2008). Finally, between 2010 and 2015 he performed the cycle “The Bach Legacy” in six concerts, with works by various masters from the 18th to the 20th centuries who composed organ works inspired by those of the Thomaskantor. In 2017 he performed the complete works for organ by Johannes Brahms in Bilbao and Pamplona, and in 2018, that of Schumann.

As a composer, his organ works include: Trio (1993); Three Pieces for Iberian Organ (1994, 1995, 1998); Prelude, Chorale and Fugue on the name DURUFLE (1994); Sinfonietta nº4 (1994) for flute and organ; Contrapunctus XIX (1999); Triptych for Organ (2000); Agur Jaunak (2001) and Two Variations on Aldapeko (2001). He has also tackled the world of organ transcriptions of orchestral and piano works by different composers: Johann Sebastian Bach, José María Usandizaga, Julen Ezkurra, Richard Wagner, Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Paul Hindemith, Dmitri Shostakovich and Viktor Ullmann, among others.

Finally, he has organised 26 cycles of “Explanatory Concerts” (1994-2020) in collaboration with the University of the Basque Country (113 recitals and 25 conferences), with the aim of bringing classical music closer to the university environment with detailed programmes and close contact between performers and public.
